The College of Humanities and Law (CHL)was founded in November 2019on the basis of the former collegeof Political Science and Law,Combiningthe undergraduate program ofinternational education of Chinese languagefrom College ofInternational Education Exchange, andHumanities and Social science education base.The history development of CHL as follows.

In the 1950s,Taiyuan Institute of Technology and Shanxi Institute of Mining and Technologyset upMarxism-Leninism Teaching and Researchsection respectively to carry outrelevant teaching and research work.

In 1992,Shanxi Institute of Mining and Technologyestablished the Department of Economic trade.The major of Economic Law (pre-courseclass) was officially enrolled in 1993, and began to enroll undergraduate students of economic law in 1997.

In October 1995, thefacultyof Humanities and Social Sciences was established on the basis of the Department of Social Science and thesectionof Ideological and Political Teaching and Research in Taiyuan University of Technology. The same year began to recruit trade and economicscollegestudents.

In 1997, Taiyuan University of Technology and Shanxi Institute of Mining and Technology merged to form Taiyuan University of Technology jointly established by the province and ministry.In August 1998, the college of Arts and Sciences was established, with the management mechanism of virtualcollegeand practicalfaculty. It consists of seven faculties, the faculty of Law, the faculty of Foreign Languages, the faculty of Physical Education, the faculty of Mathematics, the faculty of Physics, the faculty of Mechanics and the faculty of Chemistry.The former faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Taiyuan University of Technology and some disciplines of The Department of Economics and Trade of Shanxi Institute of Mining and Technology were integrated into the college of Arts and Science. The faculty of Law added a major of law, and began to recruit undergraduate students in 1998.

In July 2000, thefacultyof Law, thefacultyof Foreign Languages, thefacultyof Physical Education and the newly establishedsectionof Literature and Art teaching and Researchwerecombinedto set up thecollegeof Liberal Arts,with the management mechanism of virtualcollegeand practicalfaculty.During this period, the faculty of Law continued to expand the scope of its major. In 2002, on the basis of the original law major, Administrative management major was added and began to recruit undergraduate students.

In August 2004, the faculty of Physical Education was established to be a college independently. The faculty of law, the faculty of foreign language and the section of literature and art teaching and Research of the Original college of Liberal Arts were established as the college ofCollege of Humanities and Law,with the management mechanism of virtualcollegeand practicalfaculty.During this period,thefacultyof Law continuedto attach importance to the construction of professional disciplines,On the basis of the steady development of the original undergraduate major, the discipline construction of ideological and political education hasmade a major breakthrough,In 2005, it successfully applied to grant two master's degrees of Basic Principles of Marx and Ideological and Political Education, and began to recruit and educate graduate students of related majors in 2007.

In April 2010, each faculty of the college of Humanities and Law established its own college, and the college of Political Science and Law was established, with the management mechanism of practical virtual college and virtual faculty.

Since its establishment, the college of Political Science and Law hadcontinuously strengthened discipline construction, insisted on interdisciplinary integration and actively explored the growing points of disciplines.In 2011, the major of Ideological and Political Education was added on the basis of the former major of law and administration, and enrollment began in 2012.At that time, the college had three undergraduate majors of ideological and political education, law and administrative management, three corresponding faculties and a teaching and research center of ideological and political theory.The discipline construction of the college has been fruitful, and the major of ideological and political education has been rated as a key discipline of the university.

In 2010, approved by the academic degrees committee of the State Council and the Ministry of Education, The first-level master degree in Marxist Theory was added, and consisted of six master's degree programs in second-level disciplines, which are the Marxism basic principle, the history of Marxism, thesinicization of Marxism study, abroad Marxism study, ideological and political education, the basic problems of modern Chinese history.In 2011, the college of Political Science and Law was selected as one of the first co-construction units of "Ideological and Political Theory Course" website of the Ministry of Education.

In July 2015, thecollegeof Marxism was separated from thecollegeof Political Science and Law and established.Thefacultyof Law and thefacultyof Administrative managementof thecollegeof Political Science and Lawwerekept in independent operation, while theTYUThumanistic Quality Research and Education Centerwasmergedintothecollegeof Political Science and Law.

In November 2019, the college of Political Science and Law merged the undergraduate program of international education of Chinese language and the Humanities and Social Science Education base under the department of Educational Affairs to form a new college of Humanities and Law (CHL).
